1/4 of them dont work seems incorrect when it does work.  
My wife is suffering from gestational diabetes and we bought these on the weekend when she ran out of strips for her other tester (Freestyle --- we were waiting for more mail order strips). The price is good but the quality doesnt seem good to us. First this requires more blood than other testers. Second you have to do some kind of control test before you can use the strips using a sweet liquid that comes with the strips. When we finally had it ready to start using the first several strips didnt read out and we had to throw them away wasted. And it seems about 25% of the strips wont work. When it does work the reading seemed too high (my wife compared with her Freestyle which read 10 to 20 lower). Maybe we just got a bad one (we only tried once) but if you can Id choose something else over these. : 2010-09-15 20:13:44

Solid Servicable Glucometer  
Purchased the Sidekick because my 2 year old Acucheck Compact Plus started reading 65 points lower than my sugar actually was. The purchase of the Sidekick was to tide me over until I could get my insurance company to purchase me a new Acucheck (they wont). The Sidekick works well is tiny compared to the Acucheck and has cheaper supplies. Test strips are available for this meter at WalMart. While a solid functional meter it does have a few less electronic features than the Acucheck. The Sidekick keeps your last 30 tests or so in memory but doesnt store the date and time like the Acucheck. The Acucheck had other features but none of which I ever used. Good Basic System  
I bought this system for my Father-in-Law who recently moved in with us after being overseas for many years. We were unable to find it at Wal-mart after the first time or buy it online anywhere but Amazon. Amazon comes through again with a VERY reasonable price and free shipping. This system is very compact the strips and meter are one in the same. He keeps a written log rather than anything digital and is just developing personal control over his diabetes. There is no way to download to a computer but does fit in a small carrying case well with the lancet etc... This is a good system for someone who prefers the most basic meter and it is very affordable for the non-insured.

Success Story? You tell me... But...  
This little devise gets high praises(with conditions) from me heres why. First Im not a diabetic but I have had very high triglycerides for a very long time. After doing a lot of research I decided to reduce my consumption of carbohydrates to about =<50 grams per day. I monitored my blood glucose several times a day.
The monitor comes with a handy caring pouch and even includes a small log sheet if you need to keep track of your readings. The monitor keeps the test results internally for reference very nice feature. I bought an inexpensive lancing devise (Relion) only because it was small enough to fit inside the pouch. I also managed to fit a small pencil in for logging the results on the little log sheet.If all that werent enough I also keep a few fresh needles for the finger lance.
Now the whole deal could fit in my pocket all nicely self contained. I bought several of these from you know who mart.To be honest though I did have a few strips that malfunctioned(usually : 2010-09-15 20:13:44

great little system  
My husband has been using these little test kits for over 4 years. In case youre worried that they arent accurate his last A1C (thats the blood test) was 5.9. When you compare how much the other companies charge just for their test strips we cant believe that everyone isnt using these. : 2010-09-15 20:13:44
